CDG Shares Lessons Learned with Nuclear Energy Community
Representatives from CDG, a Boeing Company, were recently interviewed for an article that appeared in the Spring 2011 issue of the NIRMA Newsletter, published by the Nuclear Information and Records Management Association.
CDG has been actively engaged with NIRMA members for several years, and has continued to share information with them on how the aviation industry has used industry standardization for technical publications and various software tools and methods to manage parts configuration and maintenance information for aircraft fleets. CDG has published white paper articles and has made presentations to NIRMA members to explain the parallels that exist between the aviation industry and the nuclear energy industry, and how applying similar methods of managing parts configuration information may be useful.
This most recently published article covered a conversation with CDG’s VP of Illustrated Parts Catalogs, Warren Smith and Director of Enterprise Solutions, Mike Patterson. Smith and Patterson discussed how CDG’s Smart IPC™ application had been successfully deployed with several commercial airline organizations to manage parts and maintenance information to support their aircraft maintenance and parts procurement operations. They also discussed how CDG’s Wiring Illuminator Web™ application has been successfully used for wiring troubleshooting for military aircraft in demanding battlefield situations. Either of these applications could potentially be applied to nuclear plant maintenance, parts configuration management, and plant wiring troubleshooting functions.
The nuclear power industry recognizes the need for standardization in its parts configuration data management practices, as well as the need for more advanced tools to support nuclear plant maintenance operations. Organizations such as NIRMA are fully engaged in exploring these and other process improvement options for their members. CDG is pleased to be able to share these “lessons learned” from the aviation industry with the Nuclear industry’s records management professionals.
